Why Choose this Career Path vs. College?
People in the skilled trades are important. They have built this country since its inception. If skilled trades people disappeared tomorrow, society would grind to a halt. By 2018, fields like construction and manufacturing will provide nearly 8 million jobs. The men and women in this industry are highly intelligent and resourceful problem solvers. They use math and science in their everyday work, and need to be able to think outside the box to solve unique challenges. These people need to be able to plan ahead, predict problems, lead and mentor others, negotiate with customers and others. These are by no means easy tasks.
Make More Money
A student choosing to go in to a four year apprenticeship will graduate from the program earning more per hour than most four year graduates. These same students will also have earned approximately $145,000 with no debt. Their peers that chose to go into a four year college program will have spent close to $80,000 or more. That is more than a $225,000 difference. Apprentice's will be in a position to be earning $50,000 to $70,000 per year.
